6 Iconic Homes Designed by The Banyan Studio in Bangalore
No matter how grand a home may be, what makes it special is not its size but rather the manner by which it was creatively constructed. A home that has been thoughtfully planned allows for the smooth execution of daily activities from opening up spaces when hosting guests to ensuring that ample sunlight can reach the interior rooms as well as allowing the house to connect with nature.
The residential works created by The Banyan Studio are all examples of this concept in Bangalore and neighboring areas. The studio has designed several homes ranging from modern villas to courtyard-type homes and homes with elements of traditional architecture. All of these projects were designed according to the needs, requirements, and even the personalities of the inhabitants of the house.
1. Traditional Contemporary Villa (Holiday Home)
Year built: 2026
Architect: The Banyan Studio
Buildup Area: 3800 sq. ft
Location: Budigere Cross, Bangalore, Karnataka
Client: Dr. Angela David
Must Know:
This villa project ‘Coconest’ is situated at Budigere Cross. The villa itself is planned as a holiday destination from the hustle of traffic and pollution in Bangalore City. Entering this house is like entering a world of relaxation and leisure.
Coconest is a combination of traditional and contemporary features where a clearly defined contemporary plan is adopted along with varied volumes which help to articulate the design. Variation in height levels creates a spatial hierarchy. Spaces with double height ceilings add spaciousness while the lower volumes add intimacy. These varied volumes define the built form of the villa.
North-facing orientation plays a vital role in planning this villa. There are large openings in the villa which allow natural light to enter the house. The air is cool with fresh air flow through the verandas without much heat. The swimming pool attached to the living room increases the quality of experience in the house.

The cross ventilation is made possible through large windows and verandas covered on all sides. The form of the building has been kept simple and clear to allow materials to play an important part in making the project successful. In short, the design is not made complicated in any manner; rather, it relies on simplicity of form to make it comfortable.

Must Know:
The current version of the colonial-style house is indeed a very good demonstration of the architectural principles followed by the studio in question. For instance, the huge portico made up of two stories covered with narrow Doric columns contrasts nicely with the recessed facade due to the effect of shadows formed on its white walls. Also, the arched windows complete with fanlights above the dark wooden doors contribute significantly to the aesthetic appeal of the structure.

Must Know:
The contemporary and modern-style duplex house represents a perfect combination of architecture and cosy interior. It is worth mentioning that the facade of this duplex incorporates some natural materials like natural stones and wood used to create a more attractive appearance. One of the most noticeable features of the duplex is the use of vertical louvres that not only provide a great facade appearance but also add a level of privacy and ventilation. It seems appropriate to conclude that the duplex is characterised by a perfect combination of its exterior and interior styles.
Designing meaningful homes
These houses, each having a unique approach, are based on the specific nature of the sites and climatic conditions along with the lifestyles associated with them. From duplex housing to inspired historical designs, the works show the emphasis of The Banyan Studio on clarity, materiality, and well-thought-out spatial concepts. The commonality among all the above-mentioned works is the approach adopted, which strikes a balance between form and function.
